Ukhozi FM presenter Siya Mhlongo arrested for stabbing his “boyfriend”

South African popular presenter Siya Mhlongo has been arrested and will appear in court on Friday, 6 September, after allegedly assaulting and stabbing his “boyfriend” on Saturday, 31 August. His arrest was confirmed to Daily Sun by KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

“Police in Durban Central have arrested a 40-year-old man for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an incident in which a 29-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and stabbed by a suspect known to him on 31 August 2024,” Netshiunda said.

“The victim sustained injuries to the face and was taken to hospital for medical attention. The suspect is expected to appear today (Friday, 6 September) in the Durban Magistrates Court.”

The 29-year-old man, who claimed to be Siya’s boyfriend, alleged that the renowned presenter assaulted and stabbed him in the face, resulting in facial injuries.

The incident occurred in Durban on Saturday night, as the two were allegedly returning from an entertainment venue in Morningside.

The victim told Daily Sun he and Siya had a romantic relationship from 2020 to 2021, broke up, and gave their love another try this year.  He said Siya became a jealous lover after they had fun time with friends, one of whom blew kisses to him during their goodbyes.

“After one of our friends blew kisses at me, I didn’t realise Siya was angry about it. We went to his car, where a heated argument about the blowing of kisses ensued. He was angry, accusing me of cheating on him with one of our friends. He said friends would not say goodbye by blowing kisses if we weren’t dating each other.”

He said things got ugly when Siya allegedly forced him to call the friend to confirm they were not dating.

“I refused, and he started to attack me with an alcohol bottle on my face. Then, he punched me until a VW Polo passing by stopped, and the occupants intervened. After that, I stepped out of the car and took a video as evidence when he was asking to take me to the hospital. I refused as I felt unsafe,” he said.

In the video, the victim is seen bleeding from the face, standing outside the car, while Siya is seen sitting inside, asking him to get inside.  He said he managed to rush to the hospital for medical attention and opened an assault case at the Durban Central SAPS on Sunday, 1 September.
