Sphamandla Mabonga, the controversial ex-boyfriend of The Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) star Londie London, faced police gunfire that led to his fatal shooting. This tragic incident occurred when he defied a ban and entered Solo restaurant in Sandton with a firearm on Thursday night.
The dramatic shootout erupted around 11 PM at 24 Central, a popular upmarket hangout. Although paramedics rushed Mabonga, a business tycoon with a history of legal troubles, to the hospital, he later died from his injuries.
The Fatal Shootout
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirmed Mabonga’s death and reported that police also shot and killed his two bodyguards during the altercation. Additionally, four other victims suffered injuries in the crossfire.
According to reports,Sphamandla Mabonga attempted to enter the restaurant despite the ban. He carried a firearm, violating the establishment’s strict no-firearms policy. Consequently, Sandton police officers intervened, leading to a heated confrontation.
Initially Sphamandla, Mabonga handed his weapon to one of his eight bodyguards. However, the situation escalated quickly. Gunfire erupted, causing chaos and to the tragic loss of his and two bodyguards’ lives.
Sphamandla Mabonga and His History of Violence
This incident marks another chapter in Mabonga’s violent history. In January 2024, police arrested him after he opened fire on security personnel at Tempo Luxury Restaurant in Sunninghill.
Masemola revealed that Mabonga frequently clashed with the law. “He was out on bail for similar cases of attempted murder at clubs,” Masemola stated. “We arrest and oppose bail, but we cannot always guarantee someone stays behind bars.”
Mabonga and Londie London, whose real name is Londiwe Zulu, endured a tumultuous relationship in 2023, filled with controversy, including an assault case involving a female journalist.
Additionally, the couple faced scrutiny when police confiscated a luxury BMW that Mabonga gifted to Londie. Authorities later discovered the vehicle had been hijacked.
As the investigation continues, many questions about Mabonga’s turbulent past and his relationship with Londie London remain unanswered.
