Actor Linda Majola has taken to social media to share a deeply personal and relatable post about growing up as a queer child. The talented actor, known for his roles in The Wife and other notable productions, spoke candidly about the loneliness and rejection he faced during his formative years.
“Growing up as a queer child, I had many moments of loneliness. I felt like the ugly duckling or the odd one out. Boys didn’t understand me, girls understood me but still never welcomed me in fully,” Linda wrote.
However, Linda’s story is one of resilience and hope. He credits his sister, @soph_abulous, for helping him “blossom into the flower” he is today.”My sister @soph_abulous really helped me blossom into the flower that I am today,” Linda added.
Linda’s post resonated with many, including fellow actor and radio presenter Khaya Dladla, who showed his support and solidarity with a thoughtful comment. Khaya, who has also been vocal about his own experiences as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, reflected on the progress made since the first LGBTQIA+ march in Johannesburg in 1990.
“See how far we [have] come from the first LGBTQIA+ march in the African continent in Johannesburg on October 13 1990 fighting for gay rights, equality and [against] apartheid at the same time to today, where people like me are on radio prime-time shows five days a week and on TV six days a week on major channels and streaming platforms,” Khaya wrote.
Khaya’s comment highlighted the significance of representation and visibility in the LGBTQIA+ community. “Same-sex couples legally married with children (still working on that),” Khaya added.
