Media personality Nonkanyiso Conco, popularly known as LaConco, has revealed the emotional and financial struggles she faced after her breakup with former president Jacob Zuma. In the second episode of Timeline with LaConco, she shared how Zuma’s empty promises left her heartbroken and forced her to rebuild her life from scratch.
A Painful Breakup and a Return to Humble Beginnings
LaConco admitted that the breakup left her in shock and denial. “I created excuses, but eventually, I accepted the reality,” she said. She moved from her home in Ballito to her mother’s house in Matatiele, Eastern Cape, to recover. “I had to start from scratch and accept that things had changed. I no longer had the support I once enjoyed,” she added.
She revealed that the relationship had put her in a position where she could instantly survive, but after the split, she was left broke and struggling. “I never mourned the relationship because there was so much I had to face,” she said.
Mental Health Struggles and Unanswered Questions
LaConco disclosed that the emotional toll led her to seek professional help. “At some point, I had to go to a mental institution and consult with psychiatrists and psychologists to reset my system,” she shared. She revealed that Zuma stopped calling her in 2018, leaving her with unanswered questions.
“Last year, I went to his homestead and asked him what happened, but he couldn’t answer. I asked if I did anything wrong, but he remained silent,” she said. Despite the pain, LaConco held back her tears, knowing that breaking down in front of him wouldn’t help.
Forgiveness and Moving On
LaConco publicly forgave Zuma, stating, “I forgive you; honestly, JZ, I forgive you. You know I’ve always wished nothing but the best for you.” However, she expressed her desire for closure, urging Zuma to apologize for the pain he caused.
“I just want him to apologize for all the wrongs he did to me. He made many promises but fulfilled none of them. Now, I’m raising our child alone,” she said.
A Call for Respect and Understanding
LaConco criticized those who judged her for dating Zuma, emphasizing that she gained nothing from the relationship. “It’s unfair for people to think I was with him for money. I was a young, innocent virgin when we met, and he deflowered me,” she revealed.
Despite the challenges, LaConco remains respectful toward Zuma, acknowledging that he paid lobola for her. “I will always respect him for that,” she said.
Zuma’s Silence
According to LaConco, Zuma no longer takes her calls, even when their child wants to speak to him. “Sometimes the child misses him and asks me to call. I do, but I already know he won’t answer,” she shared.
Zuma’s spokesperson, Jimmy Manyi, did not respond to requests for comment.
